Upper Area Junior Band Auditions
Upper Area Junior Band Clinic auditions occur in mid-January, usually the Saturday following All-State East Senior Clinic auditions, with a registration deadline typically set in early December. This event is hosted at an Upper Area school. ETSBOA member directors in good standing may register students in 7th and 8th grades who attend the school(s) where they teach. All directors who register students must attend and assist with auditions. There are specific audition requirements for students including scales, etudes, and sightreading. Students audition for one band in each grade, 7 th and 8 th , with identical instrumentation selected for both. Specific audition requirements and procedures may be found in the Upper Area Procedures section of the ETSBOA Constitution and By-laws. Upper Area Junior Band Clinic
Upper Area Junior Band Clinic is a two-day event that occurs in mid-February, usually the Friday and Saturday following All-State East Senior Clinic. This event is hosted at an Upper Area school. ETSBOA member directors in good standing may register students who successfully auditioned and chaired in one of the clinic bands. There are two bands, a 7 th grade band and an 8 th grade band, led by clinicians selected by the directorship. Participating students receive a medal for their achievement. All directors with participating students must attend and assist with the clinic. Upper Area Solo & Ensemble
Upper Area Solo & Ensemble Festival typically occurs on the first Saturday in March at an area school. ETSBOA member directors in good standing may register instrumental music students who attend the school(s) where they teach. All middle and high school band and orchestra students are eligible to participate. Students may participate in a total of three (3) events. Events are scored on a standard rubric (I-Superior, II-Excellent, III-Fair, IV-Poor) with medals given for scores of I-Superior and II-Excellent. All directors with participating students must attend and assist with the festival. Students may perform with or without piano accompaniment. ETSBOA does not provide accompanists. Additionally, more advanced students may elect to register for a masterclass event for the opportunity to receive additional performance time and feedback.
